Teaching for Outreach:
- April 2012: Sparkfun Lilypad Kit Tutorial for "CU in CS" Workshop: Instructor for the two hour long hands-on activity for high school students and open option students. Used Sparkfun Lilypad Kit to sew with conducting thread and connect batteries to LEDs, which light up to show the flow of current. The slides of the workshop are available here.
- June 2011: Taught a CS course for underrepresented students: Instructor for a Computer Science course for Middle School students, which was supported by a grant from CU Diversity and Excellence office. Used playing techniques to help them understand searching algorithm. Helped them program Scribbler Robots with a GUI interface. At the end of 2 hour course, the attendees were able to program the robot to play a musical note, draw the first letter of their name and blink LEDs. They also got familiar with loops in the program. The description of the course is available here.
- February 2011: Visited local High School to educate students about Computer Science: Participated in Computer Science Education Week by visiting Peak to Peak High School and talking to the students about various opportunities available in Computer Science. The slides used for this purpose are available here.
Chair of CUWIC:
As the chair of ACM-W Chapter of CU Women in Computing (CUWIC) since
2010, I got an opportunity to create a platform in CU to share
information about technical, social, networking, and academic
opportunities available for women in Computing. Along with other CUWIC
officers, I organized a variety of events from social gatherings like
breakfast and lunch to formal panels and workshops for high school
students that helped make the community stronger over the years. The
CUWIC website includes some of the events organized by
the group.
