Welcome

Peter Ramadge

Welcome to the Electrical Engineering Department at Princeton. In this brief message I hope to convey to you a sense of our department's mission, its vitality and diversity, and the dedication of the faculty and staff in carrying out our educational and research missions.

Electrical Engineering is a dynamic and broad field. In our department it encompasses the basic physics of semiconductors, through electronic and optical devices, the design of computers, to algorithms and structures for biological and information technologies. By Princeton standards our department is quite large, with twenty seven full-time professors and five associated professors from related departments. However, our size still allows close interaction between the faculty and students at all levels.

We strive to be at the forefront of research and to educate our students in the fundamentals as well as emerging technologies and their applications. Many of our faculty have won prestigious teaching awards but are equally distinguished for their research contributions. We have faculty who are members of the National Academies, Fellows of various professional societies, including sixteen Fellows of The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and in 1998 Professor Daniel Tsui was co-recipient of the Nobel Prize in physics. You will find detailed information about our educational programs (including information on how to apply) in the academics section of our web pages and detailed information on current research projects is available in the research section of our pages. Browsing through the individual faculty pages (in the people section) may also be informative and helpful.

We encourage on-going technical interactions with industry. Such interactions are increasingly important not only in maintaining the vitality of our graduate research programs, but also in continuing the upgrading of our teaching resources in classrooms and laboratories. If you would like to explore possible corporate interactions, a good place to start is with our Corporate Affiliates Program.

Thank you for visiting,

Peter Ramadge, Professor and Chair
