MATHEMATICS

Mathematics has always been my favourite subject. I am interested in traditional Indian Mathematics. While at CEG, I learnt some Vedic Mathematics techniques for fast arithmetic computations. Some of the techniques are very unique to Indian Mathematics. One example is the Ekadhika technique to test the divisibility of a number by any other number.

I like Number theory very much, though I am no expert in that. It is irrefutably the Queen of Mathematics. And recall that Mathematics is the Queen of all Sciences !!

MUSIC

I am also interested in the traditional Indian music. I enjoy hearing Carnatic music (South Indian traditional classical music), though I haven't learnt a bit of it. I enjoy Sampradhaya bhajans more, since they don't require theoretical knowledge of Carnatic music and the tempo is much more than that in a Carnatic music concert. Jayadeva's Geeta Govindam is an important part of South Indian Sampradhaya bhajans. It contains 24 Ashtapadhis (songs with 8 stanzas) and are usually sung in 24 different ragas.

The efficacy of Nama sankeerthanam is brought out by the shloka (verse) below.

NAham vasAmi vaikuntE na yOgi hrudayeravau

MadbakthA: yathra gAyanthi thathra thishtAmi nArada

"The Lord says that he will not be in Vaikunta or in the heart of any sage, but he will be standing wherever his devotees are singing His name.

It is said that the 'Nama' is more powerful than the 'Nami' (the one who possesses the name). "

SPORTS

I closely follow Cricket, which is the most popular sport in India. I was playing this game quite seriously, until I decided to take up studies seriously :) I like the way the laws of cricket are written, and believe me, umpiring is one of the most difficult tasks in the cricket field.

FUN

One and half years at IISc was a memorable one. The Bowschash group (the core comprising of Subruk, CT, Bowschie, M-Kiran, Dr.Jix, Kallu and me a.k.a Proffie) was great fun.
